What happens when you leave your motorcycle outside in the winter:

  • Chrome becomes pitted that will lead to oxidation (rust)

  • When you pull your car into the garage, the heat from the engine atomizes the water/salt from your car and lands in the nooks and crannies of your motorcycle that will lead to oxidation (rust)

Summer months are a great time to ride your motorcycle, winter in Erie, not so much. We’d like you to know, storing your motorcycle in a garage for an extended period, damage could occur to your bike, especially in the winter season. Luckily, KCT’s has you covered, we handle everything needed for motorcycle winter storage for $250.00 + tax for November – March, that includes:

  1. Storing your bike in a climate controlled environment to avoid the stress of extreme cold during winter in Erie.
  2. KCT’s will drain your carburetor & add an ethanol fuel treatment to avoid sediment build up or fuel contamination.
  3. Battery is hooked up to a battery tender (trickle charger) to maintain battery health and extend it’s life.
  4. We even wash your bike before you pick it up in the Spring so your bike is ready to ride!
  5. We also provide payment plans to get service work completed over the winter, spend $1,500.00 or more and your storage is free!

What Happens if you Leave your Motorcycle Outside for the Winter?

Due to the extreme cold in Erie, PA we never recommend leaving your bike outside for the winter. There are several reasons you should avoid this and use our affordable winter motorcycle storage service. Think about the potential of a car losing traction on ice and crashing into your bike or a snowplow laying your bike down from the snow it’s pushing off of the street. In addition to those potential catastrophes, these are the more common problems we see when someone stores their motorcycle outside for the winter.

  1. Chrome pitted and will lead to oxidation/rust
  2. Dead battery
  3. Fuel is not stabilized and could contaminate your fuel tank, lines or even plug your carburetor
  4. Extreme cold will harden plastic parts and make them more susceptible to breakage
  5. Cracks in leather and potential fading
  6. Dulling or faded paint

What if I put a tarp over my motorcycle for the winter?

You will likely see similar problems as above with the exception of 5 and 6 if you leave your bike outside with a tarp over it. Keep in mind condensation will build up under the tarp causing the chrome to become pitted that will lead to rust & also damage the paint.

What if I store my motorcycle in the garage for the winter?

Because a typical garage is not heated you will still see many of the problems from the bike sitting for the winter or the cold weather. We’ll explain everything prior to storage so you understand the cost and there are no hidden fees when you pick up your bike in the spring.
